Astral PPM is our own platform for portfolio management. While Microsoft Project is good at managing scheduling, tasks, and dependencies, it doesn't cover the executive/PMO layer. Astral PPM brings in portfolio health measures, intake/prioritization flows, resource allocation from a portfolio-level perspective, and dashboards for executives, leveraging the data you already have in your Microsoft environment.
It depends on what you are trying to achieve. Both Microsoft Project and Project for the Web work great for companies whose main objective is scheduling and tracking tasks within projects. Dynamics 365 Project Operations is ideal for professional service organizations that need to integrate project delivery, sales, and financials. Astral PPM solves issues related to portfolio management and governance. In many cases, both Project Operations and Astral PPM are used simultaneously as part of our wider project management services.
